Kohkôs
Kohkôs is the pig who started it all. She joined our family in 2017 at just 10 weeks old and immediately stole our hearts. It was Kohkôs who first showed us just how loving, intelligent, funny, and mischievous pigs can be—and ultimately inspired our love for these incredible animals.
Raised as an indoor pig, Kohkôs quickly became part of the family. She slept in everyone’s beds, napped on the couch, and soon figured out how to open both the refrigerator and pantry doors when she was in the mood for a snack!
Growing up alongside young children, Kohkôs has always been comfortable around people and enjoys meeting new friends. Some of her favourite things are going for walks, taking car rides, and, most importantly, getting plenty of belly rubs.
Now 9 years old, Kohkôs is the oldest pig at the sanctuary and will always hold an extra-special place in our hearts. She is where our journey began and the reason so many pigs have a safe place to call home today.
Mowgli
Mowgli, affectionately known as Mowgs, was the first Kunekune addition to our herd. Born in June 2019, he came along at a time when Kunekune pigs were still difficult to find in BC.
While all the other piglets found homes, Mowgli remained unwanted due to uncertainty about his breeding abilities. He came to us as a last-chance effort to ensure he didn’t end up becoming someone’s food.
Mowgli has the sweetest disposition and is wonderful when meeting younger children. He also loves car rides and has a mischievous side! He’s been known to turn up the music, change radio stations, adjust the heat or air conditioning, and even turn on the windshield wipers.
Bonk
Bonk came to us in May 2021 when he was only one week old and desperately in need of medical attention. Much smaller than the other piglets, baby Bonk was almost completely unresponsive, and one of his eyes was protruding from its socket.
Bonk was surrendered to us and received immediate veterinary care and surgery. Thankfully, he made a full recovery. He is now completely blind in one eye and has partial vision in the other. Due to the trauma he suffered to his head, Bonk is also completely deaf.
Despite these challenges, Bonk has adapted remarkably well. He relies on his other senses to confidently make his way through life and has never let his disabilities define him.
His unusual name actually came from his early days as a piglet. With his limited vision, he had a habit of walking into things. Every time it happened, I would say, “Oh… bonk!” The name stuck, and he has been Bonk ever since.
Lil’ Guy
Lil Guy was rescued in February 2023 from Green Lake, BC. Before coming to us, he had escaped and survived in the wilderness for over a week before eventually returning in search of food and the other pigs.
Sadly, the other pigs he had lived with were taken away and slaughtered. The neighbour caring for Lil Guy did not want him to face the same fate, and thankfully, he found his way to us.
Lil Guy had a difficult time, battling pneumonia twice before finally becoming healthy and happy. His experiences have left him understandably cautious around people. He is still afraid of humans and does not allow us to pet him, but we respect his boundaries and allow him to live life on his own terms.
Lil Guy may not seek human affection, but he is safe, cared for, and will never have to worry about what tomorrow holds.
Petunia
Petunia came to us in June 2023 after we received a call about a lone pig wandering around a rest stop near Hixon, BC. When we arrived, there she was—happily making the rounds and charming travellers out of their snacks!
We checked nearby properties hoping to find where she belonged, but no one recognized her. With the help of some wonderful members of the community, we were able to safely catch Petunia and bring her home with us. We continued searching for her family, but no one ever came forward to claim her.
Petunia quickly became a bit of a celebrity. Her story caught the attention of the media, and this little pig made news appearances that reached all the way to Ontario!
Today, Petunia is one of the smallest members of our herd and has settled beautifully into sanctuary life. She is a gentle, sweet girl who gets along wonderfully with the other pigs. She also enjoys the comforts of indoor life and is always happy to curl up on a dog bed in the house for a good nap.
From hustling for snacks at a highway rest stop to having a safe home and a herd of her own, Petunia’s journey is one we will never forget.
Tank
Tank came to us in the fall of 2023 after his pig companion passed away, leaving him on his own. His previous owner tried to find him a new home, but when they were unable to do so, Tank found his way to the sanctuary.
Approximately six years old, Tank never had the opportunity to form a close bond with people. Because of this, he remains very cautious around humans and becomes nervous when we get too close. We respect his boundaries and allow him to interact with us on his own terms.
Tank quickly found a friend in Lil Guy. The two formed a strong bond and lived together for some time before eventually joining the rest of the herd.
Tank has adjusted wonderfully to life with the other pigs at the sanctuary. Despite being one of our bigger fellas, he has a gentle nature and has never been particularly dominant within the herd. He is happiest surrounded by his pig friends, where he can simply be himself and enjoy the companionship he had been missing.
Big Red
Big Red’s journey to the Tickled Pig began when he was spotted wandering along the highway near Clinton, BC. He had been on his own for more than a week and travelled over 10 kilometres before making his way to a nearby home, where a kind resident began feeding him.
While trying to locate his owners, it became clear that Big Red’s future was uncertain and that he was viewed primarily as a food source. The homeowner who had been caring for him didn’t want to see him slaughtered and reached out for help.
We made the drive to Clinton to bring him to safety, and in October 2023, Big Red officially joined the Tickled Pig family. He created chaos instantly, breaking fences and kennels, wanting to be with all the other pigs.
Big Red is a full-sized farm pig weighing more than 450 pounds. Despite his impressive size, he has plenty of personality to match. He is our bossy boy and likes to make sure everyone in the herd knows who’s in charge!
We believe Big Red is approximately three years old. His days of wandering highways are far behind him, and he can now spend his life safe, cared for, and surrounded by his pig family.
Moe
Moe came to the Tickled Pig in the fall of 2024 after things didn’t quite work out as planned at his previous farm. He had been sold as a proven breeder, but when he failed to fulfill that role, his future became uncertain. There was a very real possibility that if he were sold or given away, he would eventually end up as food. Instead, Moe found a permanent home with us.
Moe is a seven-year-old Kunekune with a face that is impossible not to love—and a personality that is equally impossible to ignore! Of all the pigs at the sanctuary, Moe may just take the prize for the worst manners, but he definitely creates the most smiles.
He is determined to maintain his position as one of the top pigs in the herd and regularly challenges Big Red for bragging rights. Moe has plenty of confidence and isn’t afraid to let everyone know when he wants something. On occasion, he even tries to boss the humans around!
Underneath all that attitude is a pig with plenty of character who keeps us laughing and on our toes. Moe may be stubborn, bossy, and a little lacking in manners, but that is exactly what makes him Moe—and we wouldn’t change him for anything.
Lily
Lily arrived at the Tickled Pig with her sister, Lucy, in March 2025. They came from a loving family who, when life opened the door to new adventures, trusted us to give these two special girls a safe and happy home.
Now four years old, Lily is the quieter, more cautious sister. She likes to observe the world from a comfortable distance, taking her time before deciding whether people can be trusted. She may not always come close enough for a gentle pet, but that doesn’t mean she lacks curiosity. Lily has a thoughtful, watchful nature, and she seems happiest when she can experience new things at her own pace—with Lucy close beside her.
The bond between the sisters is unmistakable. Lucy is Lily’s familiar comfort, her steady companion, and the reassuring presence that helps her feel at home. Wherever they go, they go together, sharing quiet moments, exploring side by side, and finding confidence in one another.
Since arriving at the sanctuary, Lily has begun to settle into her new life. She has also discovered one of its greatest pleasures: mealtime! Fresh fruits and vegetables have quickly won her heart, and she is always ready to investigate when delicious treats appear.
Lily may be reserved, but there is something deeply special about earning the trust of a gentle soul like her. We are happy to give her all the time, patience, and space she needs to feel safe. Here, Lily and Lucy will always have each other—and a loving home where they can grow comfortable, content, and cherished together.
Lucy
Lucy arrived at the Tickled Pig in March 2025, her sister Lily close beside her. They had come from a loving family who trusted us to give the two girls a safe, happy home as they began a new chapter together. From the very beginning, their bond was unmistakable—where one went, the other was never far away.
Now nine years old, Lucy is the more outgoing of the sisters, though she didn’t always feel ready to show it. When she first arrived, she was cautious about letting people come too close and wasn’t quite sure what to make of being petted by strangers. But with time, patience, and Lily’s reassuring presence nearby, Lucy slowly began to relax.
Then, over the summer, something wonderful happened. Lucy started seeking us out for attention, stepping forward to say hello and discovering the bliss of a good belly rub. Her growing trust felt like a gift, each affectionate nudge and hopeful glance revealing a little more of the confident, loving pig beneath her initial hesitation.
Lucy has also developed a serious appreciation for food. She arrived as a rather picky eater, but those days are long gone. Now she happily gobbles up almost anything offered to her—and when treats appear, you’d better watch your fingers!
Though Lucy is much smaller than many of the pigs in the herd, she certainly doesn’t seem to know it. With a bold personality and plenty of determination, she isn’t afraid to stand her ground and make her opinions known. Lucy quickly proves that size has nothing to do with who’s in charge.
And if you’re brave enough to bend down and kiss her snout, she may reward you with one of her own special gifts: a kiss in return.
Lucy has come such a long way since arriving at the sanctuary. Watching her grow more comfortable, trusting, and affectionate has been a joy, made even sweeter by seeing her share each step with Lily. Together, the sisters have found safety, friendship, and a place to call home—and Lucy, with her big personality, brave heart, and love of belly rubs, has truly found her place in the Tickled Pig family.
Rosie
Rosie came to the Tickled Pig in June 2025, when she was just 8 weeks old. She stayed with us temporarily while receiving training before moving to her new family in Valemount.
During her stay, Rosie was attacked by a dog and suffered a severe injury to her ear. The damage was extensive, and the veterinarian ultimately had to remove the entire ear. Rosie recovered remarkably well, meeting each step of her healing with the same bright spirit that makes her so special.
Today, Rosie is the happiest pig in the herd. She races around the property, explores with enthusiasm, and is almost always ready for playtime. Her joyful personality and resilience have made her a favorite with everyone who meets her.
Rosie’s story is also an important reminder that pigs and dogs should never be left together without careful human supervision.
Niblet
Niblet arrived at the sanctuary at just four weeks old after being separated from her mom far too soon. She spent her first seven months being raised in the house, where she presumably learned that humans are excellent staff.
Since Niblet didn’t grow up around other pigs, she developed a very strong sense of self—and an even stronger sense of authority. She is one of the sanctuary’s bossiest pigs and takes every opportunity to remind everyone that she is top hog, preferably from the safety of her side of the fence.
These days, Niblet rules the front yard, greets visitors at the gate, and flops over dramatically whenever belly rubs are available. Nibs was planned to join the mini pig herd this summer, but she clearly has no interest in being with the other pigs.
Willow
Willow came to the Tickled Pig as a fragile newborn after her mother rejected her litter. The only piglet in her litter to survive, she began life needing tenderness, warmth, and round-the-clock care. From her very first days, Willow showed an extraordinary will to live, holding on through challenges no newborn should have to face.
A day later, three more newborn piglets joined her. Sadly, only Willow and one other piglet survived. Together, they found comfort and companionship, and Willow continued to grow with remarkable strength and resilience. Today, she is a beautiful reminder that even the smallest lives can carry an incredible amount of courage—and that a little love can help them find their way forward
